All Wise God

In yesterday's sermon on the Search For Wisdom, my wife told me that I focused quite a bit on the limitations of human wisdom, and I sensed that I didn't really talk about the positive side of the Wisdom of God.  The context was Job 28 where we find in man's search for answers, for wisdom pertaining especially to the suffering that he is going through, that we find it hidden from our view.  Despite the greatest minds, intellect, abilities, we still are at a loss for why suffering occurs in God's universe - at least for any specific event.

While for some that might seem bleak, or for others, they might go the other extreme of casting off all cares and like the Ecclesiastes writer describes, just eat drink and enjoy what time we have without thinking about the purposes of life.  For believers however, there is a 3rd alternative, and that is to trust an all wise God.  And that may be even more comforting than having to try to explain each event as if we had all the answers and always have it together.  (Not that we have no answers, we especially have the answer of who controls the universe, and all He has revealed to us in His Word)

In fact, knowing that God knows all and sees all has been a comfort to believers throughout the ages, including in Jesus' teaching.  Instead of worrying about every event in life, Jesus says don't you know that your heavenly Father already knows what you need? (Mt 6:32)  He even knows the details including the number of hairs that have fallen out of your head since yesterday (Mt 10:30).  What a comfort to know that you can pray to this God who understands, who knows what you need even before you ask, and knows what is best.  In all these difficulties in life, the goal isn't just that we gain more and more answers, but that we grow in faith in an all wise God who knows the details of your life and as Jesus presumes - will provide accordingly.  Let us go to this all wise God in humble dependence regularly.
